Fitzy’s Wicked Pissah Superbowl XLII Preview

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Ok, so I was devastated when I found out Fitzy isn’t actually Fitzy. But Fat Albert wasn’t real either (hint: he was Bill Cosby), but fuck, the guy is funny as shit and a huge Boston sports fan (even though he now lives in New York). Warning: lots of NSFW language in this video.

    Life After People

    Friday, January 18th, 2008

nurse-zombie.jpgI’m surprised how good, given the lack of zombies, the History Channel’s, “Life After People” preview looks. Airing at 9pm EST on January 21st, the 2-hour show aims to explore, “what would happen to planet earth if the human race were to suddenly disappear forever?”

There seems to be a lot of media coverage about the end of the world lately. The extinction of bees, Will Smith and most foreboding of all… Jessica Alba is pregnant. Did I miss a sign or something?

Line Golfer: Play a round of golf on us

    Thursday, January 17th, 2008

line-golfer.jpgBored at work? Want to shoot a few rounds? “But, Tom, it’s winter.” Not a problem with Line Golfer!

And the best part is that I’ve created a 3 hole course for you to test your skills. You should be able to finish this par 13 course in under 10 strokes (hint: look for a secret on one of the holes). Good Luck!

    Best. Pants. Ever.

    Monday, January 14th, 2008

haggar.jpgFor my new year’s resolution, I decided to step up my work clothes beyond my trademark jeans and polo shirt. This meant I had to go shopping, my least favorite activity in the world. And while I hated the general experience, I found a brand of pants I would kill for.

I’m not talking about “favorite jeans” or any crap like that. I’m talking about dress pants that actually fricken fit. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat through a meeting or conference in utter discomfort, because my pants didn’t fit. Well, today marks the end of that.

While browsing a store, I came across Haggar expandable waist pants. Sort of like how rental tuxes have the adjustable waste, Haggar pants have a built-in expandable waist (up to 3 additional inches) to accommodate my ever-growing waistline. For those men in between sizes (why don’t they make 35 pants!?) or those of us that grow throughout the day, Haggars are perfect.

BeerTender Keg Refridgeration Gadget Coming in March

    Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

krups-beertender.jpgI’m not sure why most beer gadgets tend to only be available outside the U.S., but Krups and Heineken are going to begin testing U.S. markets in March with the BeerTender. For about $400, this device can keep a 5-liter (about 14 beers) Heineken keg cold for about 30 days.

I have 2 issues with this otherwise beerific device:

    1. $400! WTF? I could buy a mini-fridge (about $150) and enough beer to fill it for a month and still have $100 left over
    2. Heineken kind of sucks. Why couldn’t they have partnered with Sam Adams or something?

Both of these issues will be addressed in the coming months however. According to The Unofficial Heineken BeerTender USA Fan Site, the price will quickly drop to around $250 and will be compatible with any beer’s draught kegs thanks to a set of tubes shipping with the unit, although I’m not aware of any other breweries offering them domestically.

World Series of Beer Pong Finals Today

    Saturday, January 5th, 2008

If you happen to be in Vegas today head on over to the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa and check out the finals of the World Series of Beer Pong. The WSOBP is in just its third year and already boasts a grand prize of $50k and is expected to attract between 300 and 400 teams from around the world. You can get up to the drunken minute stats and results from BPONG.com, but seeing 600-800 people chugging beers in person is much more impressive. Here’s a video highlight from last year’s final: (these guys are hard core!)

College radio could be so much better

    Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

So I had an idea on the ride home from work today, “why not compile the top albums/tracks of 2007 from the best college radio stations?” I DJ’d in college and loved my station and still enjoy listening to Emerson’s WERS here in Boston. Then I started researching and visiting college radio station web sites, and I can’t say I was impressed. Seriously, with all that “college talent” running around, I can’t imagine its terribly difficult to find an eager web design intern to make your station a decent web site.

But I digress, web sites are not the only issue. College radio programming is all over the place. Sure, when I was DJ’ing I didn’t have a problem with this schedule; 12-3 dance, 3-6 hip hop, 6-9 death metal, 9-12 jazz, etc, but now, as a listener to one of the best organized college radio stations in the country (#2 on the Princeton Review’s Best College Radio Stations), I realize how foolish I was.
